Retail Tales: The Schedule Got On My Nerves
When I worked in retail the schedules were horrible. I worked some weird shifts. The night crew and the closing shift was the worst shifts. Overnight shift was hard work, stocking shelves and doing special projects. During a remodel I did the night crew for months. The reason the closing shift was bad was because you never leave when the schedule says. Schedule says 9:30pm and we always leave at 10 pm or 11pm. It got on my nerves. They would lock the front door so we couldn't leave. Most of the time after 9:30 pm was just standing at the front door waiting for the manager to let you out. The manager in the back office supposedly to their nightly duties. I don't like to be locked in and having to wait for someone to let me out.
The 4am shift wasn't rough. Getting up at 3am to get ready for work is rough. I knew people who had worked that 4am shift for 10+ years and they loved it. I was always envious of them when they got off work at 1pm.I wasn't envious of the time they started their shifts.
Working night shift during inventory time, a remodel, Christmas time, back to school time, tax time and black Friday was annoying!
